DON'T LET CONGRESS LIMIT YOUR ACCESS TO OVERDRAFT PROTECTION

The United States Congress has introduced legislation that would limit your access to overdraft protection   We need your help to tell Congress the truth about overdraft protection.

Overdraft protection is a valuable service accessed by credit union members every day.  A credit union offers to pay, rather than return, non-sufficient funds transactions on checking accounts in exchange for fees that are similar to those typically charged for returned items.  Overdraft programs are intended to spare members the hassle and embarrassment of returned checks as well as avoid additional fees charged by merchants.  This legislation would unfairly limit your access to this service when you may need it.

If Congress limits consumers’ ability to access this service when they occasionally need it, they could be forced to incur more credit card debt, rely on unregulated financial service products like payday lenders or other less responsible financial solutions. The overdraft protection program your credit union offers ensures that you have smart, less costly options available to you when you need them the most.
