About Us

In Arizona, over 1.6 million people are credit union members of 56 credit unions across the state which represent over $11 billion in assets. That's pretty impressive for a state with only a few million residents. The credit union movement in Arizona is growing, serving more people every day with low cost financial services that help them make the most of their money.

We're glad you've come to visit us at the Arizona Credit Union League and Affiliates website! We are part of the U.S. Credit Union System which offers credit unions a support network second to none in the financial services industry. Our cooperative system links together thousands of credit unions, millions of members, and billions of dollars -- all working together for the common good.

The League is the grassroots organization. Not-for-profit in nature, it includes "core" services like consultant services, governmental affairs activities, regulatory compliance, legal, human resources, education, communications, publications, and public relations.

Locally, the Arizona Credit Union League and Affiliates support the credit unions in Arizona with products and services that keep the credit union movement moving successfully forward.

Supporting the Cooperative Concept

The U.S. Credit Union System provides member credit unions with a support network second to none in the financial services industry. It's a cooperative system with millions of members, thousands of credit unions, and billions of dollars all working together for the common good.

In Arizona, credit unions are members of your Arizona Credit Union League. League membership signifies the credit union's support of the cooperative "system." It also gives the credit union access to an array of comprehensive services offered on the state level. Plus, the League works cooperatively with the entire Credit Union System, which includes the Credit Union National Association (CUNA), U.S. Central Credit Union, the World Council of Credit Unions, and the CUNA Mutual Group.

Mission Statement

To protect, promote & perpetuate the credit union movement in Arizona.

Fulfilling the Mission

In 1929, the first credit union law was introduced in Arizona. State Senator T.W. Donnelly of Tucson introduced Senate Bill 66 and stood by it until the Governor signed it on March 12, 1929. Arizona was the 29th state to enact a credit union bill.

With the establishment of the Credit Union National Association in August 1934, it was only a matter of months before the Arizona Credit Union League was born in November 1934. By 1948 there were 25 credit unions with 3,000 members and almost half million dollars in assets.

In 1975 the Arizona Credit Union System moved to new headquarters at 3611 N. Black Canyon Highway, sharing the facility with Arizona Central Credit Union. In 2006, after 31 years in the same location, the building was sold and the League and affiliates moved to new headquarters at 10250 N. 25th Ave in Phoenix.
